Impressive.
It's heartening to see that the retirement age doesn't necessarily slow everyone down.

In a way, it seems only appropriate that I would return now; there is a certain symmetry in coming back to my home after a full, round decade has passed.
My name is Daniel Ward. I've mostly been in Stockholm for the past eight years, excepting brief sojourns to Rome, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc. I was on the networks some fifteen years ago; it seems not very many of you would remember, being so young. More of the previous generation are gone than I would like. But needless to say, there seemed very little point in following this system when living in another country entirely: unable to meet people, unable to react to situations, unable to be affected.
But, as mentioned, I have returned. There was a slew of launch events and press conferences in January, but my life finally seems to be settling down into a semblance of routine. I am officially committed here for the next five years, serving as music director to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. It seems I finally have a, ahem, reason to stay.
So. Hello, journals. Who's in charge at the moment?
We'll be premiering Lieberson's The World in Flower from May 7-9, if anyone is willing and able, and even the slightest bit interested in classical music.
